In a significant political development, the Congress party's Political Affairs Committee has decided to support Thiru Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in forming a new government in Tamil Nadu. This decision was made during a virtual meeting held late Tuesday night, emphasizing the party's commitment to establishing a secular government and distancing itself from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). TVK achieved a notable victory by securing 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly during the April 23 elections, while Congress, part of a DMK-led alliance, won five seats. Vijay expressed gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu for what he termed a 'historic and transformative mandate', attributing the success to the active participation of young voters. The swearing-in ceremony for Vijay is anticipated to occur on May 7 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
