Suvendu Adhikari has been elected as the Chief Minister of West Bengal following a decisive victory by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent state elections, where they won 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly. In his acceptance speech, Adhikari expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support and highlighted the democratic principles within the BJP, stating that he received unanimous backing from party legislators. He assured that the new government would work diligently to implement the promises made during the election campaign. Adhikari, who transitioned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to the BJP in 2020, played a key role in the party's campaign against the TMC, which has ruled the state for 15 years. His swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to take place in the coming days.
