On Tuesday, Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, approved the establishment of the Ladakh Tourism Development Society (LTDS). This initiative aims to create a structured framework for the sustainable development of tourism in Ladakh by uniting government agencies, local communities, and industry stakeholders. The LTDS will operate as an autonomous, not-for-profit entity under the tourism and culture department's oversight. Key responsibilities include planning, promoting, and regulating tourism initiatives while ensuring environmental sustainability and cultural preservation. Saxena emphasized that tourism is vital for Ladakh's economy and livelihoods, and the LTDS will facilitate a collaborative approach to tourism growth. Major objectives include preserving Ladakh's unique heritage, enhancing tourism infrastructure, and promoting various tourism activities, including adventure and cultural events. The society will also work with the Government of India and international organizations to promote tourism effectively, aiming to position Ladakh as a premier destination for diverse tourism experiences.
