The AMMK (Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam), an ally of the opposition AIADMK party in Tamil Nadu, has called for the immediate postponement of the Cauvery Management Authority (CMA) meeting scheduled in Delhi. TTV Dhinakaran, the AMMK chief, stated that discussions regarding the allocation of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry should be deferred until newly elected governments are in place in these regions. He expressed concerns that convening the CMA meeting at this time, especially without the results of the recent Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, is inappropriate. Dhinakaran highlighted the farmers' demand for postponement, arguing that the meeting could create a favorable environment for Karnataka’s interests, particularly in light of its proposal to construct the Mekedatu dam, which he claims threatens to turn Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery delta into a desert. He insisted that any discussions on water distribution should only occur after democratically elected governments are established.
