Ravi Shastri, the former coach of the Indian cricket team, has suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should look towards Sanju Samson as a potential replacement for Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain. With the next T20 World Cup scheduled for 2028, Shastri believes that the BCCI may need to prepare for a leadership change depending on Yadav's performance over the next couple of years. He pointed out that while Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya are also candidates, Samson's leadership experience with the Rajasthan Royals, where he led the team to the IPL final in 2022, makes him a prime candidate. Shastri noted that Samson has demonstrated maturity and consistency, particularly in high-pressure situations during the recent T20 World Cup, where he scored three crucial half-centuries. His ability to step up in significant matches and his strong performances for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) further bolster his case for future leadership roles within the team.
