The Regional Mental Hospital (RMH) in Yerawada, Pune, has issued a show-cause notice to Sachin Salvi, an office superintendent at the deputy director's office, for allegedly using government-allotted residential premises for conducting religious activities, including Sunday prayers. The notice, issued by RMH medical superintendent Dr. Srinivas Kolod on April 20, demands that Salvi vacate the accommodation immediately and provide a written explanation within two days. This action follows complaints from Hindu organizations, which claimed that the residence was being misused as an unauthorized religious center. A formal complaint was lodged with the Vishrantwadi police station, highlighting potential legal violations and law-and-order issues if gatherings continued. Police inspector Mangesh Hande emphasized that while religious practices are not objectionable, government residences must not be used for public religious activities. Salvi, who has lived in the bungalow for 15 years, refutes the allegations, stating that the gatherings were private family events and not public activities. He has requested to remain in the residence to avoid impacting his children's education and is seeking alternative accommodation.
