The analysis evaluated 53 major U.S. metro areas based on hiring trends, wages, and affordability for workers in their 20s. Birmingham ranked in the 85th percentile or higher for wages, affordability, and hiring, while Tampa excelled in hiring despite lower scores in other areas. Other cities in the top rankings included San Jose, California, and Columbus, Ohio. Notably, four other Southern cities—Raleigh, North Carolina; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Nashville, Tennessee; and Charlotte, North Carolina—also made the top 10. The report indicates an uneven recovery in hiring for college graduates, with cities like Columbus and San Jose rising in the rankings, despite some inconsistencies in their overall scores. Conversely, cities such as Milwaukee, Baltimore, and Austin saw declines in their rankings, with Austin dropping from the 94th percentile to 77th. Tampa showed significant improvement, jumping from the 54th percentile to the 98th this year.
