Sindhu S, a 55-year-old former scheduled caste promoter from Muttathara, Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested by the Vigilance Special Investigation Unit for allegedly committing fraud amounting to ₹75 lakh (approximately $90,000 USD) under a self-employment scheme for marginalized women. The investigation revealed that funds intended for distribution as subsidies were misappropriated through the creation of forged documents, denying actual beneficiaries the assistance they were entitled to. The money was reportedly transferred to bank accounts associated with a private institution owned by Sindhu. Additionally, she is facing charges in multiple other cases involving irregularities exceeding ₹5 crore (approximately $600,000 USD) related to similar subsidy schemes. Vigilance Director Manoj Abraham has urged the public to report any corruption-related information through designated helplines.
