The city of Fairway, Kansas, is preparing to evaluate a revised development plan for 'American Fire,' a restaurant concept led by local restaurateur Whitney VinZant. This new proposal includes a 2% increase in sales tax within the Community Improvement District (CID) for the restaurant located at 2820 W. 53rd St. The project has a sales tax cap of over $1.5 million and is expected to begin construction by August 2025, with an estimated opening in April 2027. VinZant expressed concerns about the economic viability of the project, citing the substantial investment needed to revitalize a property that has been vacant for nearly six years. The proposed menu features items such as a raw bar with fresh oysters, braised chicken, and specialty steaks, with prices ranging from $20 to $45. VinZant, who owns several restaurants in the Kansas City area, hopes to bring this concept to fruition but has faced challenges due to the investment required and the city's reluctance to provide support.
