On May 14, Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, became the second captain in IPL history to score 1000 runs for two different franchises. He reached this milestone during a match against Mumbai Indians, needing just four runs to achieve it. Iyer hit a four off the first ball he faced, bowled by Shardul Thakur, to complete his 1000 runs for Punjab Kings. He is only the second captain to do so, following KL Rahul, who scored 1296 runs for Punjab Kings and 1395 runs for Lucknow Super Giants. Iyer has now amassed 1000 runs in 29 matches for Punjab Kings, having previously scored 1242 runs in 41 matches as captain of Delhi Capitals. Notably, Iyer is the third fastest player to reach 1000 runs for Punjab Kings, achieving this in 28 innings, behind Shaun Marsh and KL Rahul.
