Gardaí have increased high-visibility patrols around all 42 primary schools in the area as a precaution. Eleven schools opted to close for the day, prioritizing the safety of students and staff. Parents were advised to monitor updates from their respective schools and refrain from spreading unverified information. Superintendent Anthony Farrell noted that the email, which originated from an unknown Gmail account, is currently under investigation to determine its credibility and the identity of the sender. He also warned schools to remain vigilant against potential follow-up ransomware attacks. Local councillor Fergal Browne, who is also a school principal, expressed outrage over the incident, emphasizing the need for schools to maintain safety protocols while not overreacting to threats.
