On the eve of World Environment Day, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSI) unveiled India's first flex-fuel car, the Wagon R, capable of running on ethanol-petrol blends ranging from E20 to E100. The launch event featured Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, who emphasized the vehicle's alignment with national objectives of enhancing energy security and promoting sustainability. Gadkari noted that the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles could significantly reduce India's dependence on crude oil imports while benefiting farmers by increasing ethanol demand. He praised Maruti Suzuki for leading this initiative, which he believes will inspire other manufacturers to follow suit and accelerate the development of ethanol distribution infrastructure. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, expressed the company's commitment to diversifying fuel options, including electric and hybrid technologies.
