The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated a significant victory in the urban local body elections held in Himachal Pradesh, winning three out of four municipal corporations: Dharamshala, Mandi, and Solan. In Mandi, the BJP dominated by winning 12 of the 14 wards, while Congress managed to secure only one. Surat Negi, a BJP leader, characterized these elections as a 'semi-final' leading up to the Assembly elections next year, criticizing the Congress government for failing to connect with public sentiment. However, Chief Minister Sukvinder Singh Sukhu countered these claims, asserting that Congress emerged as the overall winner by securing 29 out of 53 local body contests across the state. He labeled BJP's assertions of a sweeping victory as misleading and emphasized that local leaders played a crucial role in the election outcomes, particularly in Mandi.
