Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged he was attacked by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers near the Chanditala Police Station in Hooghly district while attempting to submit a deputation regarding post-poll violence. Banerjee described the incident as an 'attempt to murder,' claiming he was assaulted by a mob of 10-15 BJP supporters who threw stones, resulting in head injuries. He criticized the local police for failing to intervene, stating they allowed the attack to occur while thanking central security personnel for their timely assistance. Banerjee's attack follows a similar incident involving TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who was also targeted during a public visit. Other political leaders, including RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha, condemned the violence and called for unity among political parties to address the growing animosity. TMC leader Kirti Azad suggested that the attack was state-sponsored, pointing to a broader issue of lawlessness in West Bengal.
