Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress party, held a crucial meeting with party councillors on Friday at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) headquarters amidst significant chaos. This turmoil followed the cancellation of a scheduled 'House' meeting by Municipal Commissioner Smita Pandey, which led to allegations that the meeting room was locked to prevent access. Out of 136 councillors, 86 attended the meeting, which was held in the councillors' club room as a protest against the cancellation. Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim and KMC Chairperson Mala Roy were present, with Hakim expressing discontent over the locked room, which he deemed against municipal law. Opposition BJP councillors criticized the Trinamool Congress for excluding them from the meeting and labeled the actions as undemocratic, asserting that it undermined the democratic values of the KMC. BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya emphasized the need for citizen-oriented service, reflecting the growing tensions within the KMC. In response to criticism, Abhishek Banerjee stated that those questioning him should first clarify the allegations against KMC.
