The court's division bench, led by Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay and Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, has registered a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) based on media reports and a formal complaint from the Leader of Opposition to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The bench condemned the alleged cover-up attempts by senior officials to abort the pregnancy, highlighting a severe breach of trust by those responsible for inmate welfare. The court has directed the Director General of Police to file an affidavit detailing the state's response and verification of the allegations within two weeks. It has also mandated that a comprehensive report be presented at the next hearing scheduled for June 8, emphasizing the need for strict accountability and oversight beyond local prison management.
