On May 15, 2026, Polavaram District Collector K. Dinesh Kumar announced the suspension of ten officials from the District Water Management Authority (DWMA) due to their failure to provide adequate employment opportunities for tribals under the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB-G RAM G). This initiative, previously known as MGNREGA, aims to enhance job security and improve the livelihoods of tribal communities. Among those suspended are two Assistant Project Officers, four Technical Assistants, and four Field Assistants. The officials were responsible for executing works under the Jaladhara - Jala Harathi scheme, which focuses on rejuvenating minor irrigation sources. Notably, M. Reddibabu, the Assistant Project Officer for V.R. Puram Mandal, reported only 18,667 person-days of work completed against a target of 1.27 lakh person-days. Similarly, Bandila Satyanarayana, another Assistant Project Officer in Rampachodavaram, managed to generate 23,065 person-days of work against a target of 1.46 lakh person-days. This shortfall in achieving employment targets could leave many tribals without work and hinder the progress of irrigation projects in the district.
