On Tuesday, US Marines boarded the commercial ship M/V Blue Star III in the Arabian Sea, suspecting it of attempting to violate the blockade of Iranian ports. After a thorough search, the ship was released once it was confirmed that its voyage would not include an Iranian port call. The United States has been actively enforcing this blockade since April 13, following unsuccessful peace negotiations in Pakistan. According to Central Command, 39 vessels have already been redirected to ensure compliance with the blockade. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth indicated that the blockade will remain in effect indefinitely, while General Dan Caine emphasized that it applies to all vessels, regardless of their nationality, traveling to or from Iranian ports. This military action comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, particularly after Iranian forces closed the vital Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for oil and gas shipments, following the escalation of US-Israeli military actions against Iran.
