The Haryana Police has introduced a double OTP (one-time password) system on a pilot basis in Gurugram and Panchkula, aimed at safeguarding elderly individuals from increasing cyber crimes. This initiative, developed in collaboration with HDFC Bank, mandates that a transaction is only completed after OTPs are verified by both the elderly person and a trusted contact, such as a family member or friend. The system was reviewed under the direction of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who emphasized the need for effective measures against digital fraud, particularly those targeting senior citizens. During a recent meeting, senior police officials and representatives from nine major banks discussed the implementation and technical aspects of this innovative system. The double OTP method is designed to introduce a protective pause during transactions, thereby reducing the risk of fraud. The initiative is currently targeted at individuals over 60 years old, with plans for gradual expansion across the state.
