India has set an ambitious goal to increase its total exports to $2 trillion by the fiscal year ending March 2031. Currently, total exports stand at $860.1 billion for FY26, comprising $441.78 billion in merchandise and $418.31 billion in services. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal outlined that the target will be split evenly between merchandise and services, with each aiming for $1 trillion. A structured export monitoring framework has been developed to ensure sector-specific action plans are in place, covering industries such as engineering, textiles, electronics, and pharmaceuticals. Goyal highlighted the need for clear timelines, inter-departmental coordination, and an IT-enabled platform to track progress. The Export Promotion Mission (EPM), which focuses on MSMEs, aims to remove export bottlenecks and promote sustainable growth. The mission includes initiatives like Niryat Protsahan for trade finance and Niryat Disha for market access. Goyal also reviewed support schemes for exporters affected by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, emphasizing the importance of reaching first-time exporters and enhancing logistics and certification systems to boost global competitiveness.
