The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed BK Hariprasad as the new chief of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), taking over from DK Shivakumar, who has transitioned to the role of chief minister of Karnataka. This decision was announced by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and is effective immediately. Hariprasad, aged 72, has had a long-standing political career, currently serving in the Karnataka Legislative Council, with his term ending this month. His selection follows internal party discussions, where he emerged as a leading candidate. During Shivakumar's swearing-in ceremony, Hariprasad expressed his commitment to collaborating with the new government for the state's development. Although Satish Jarkiholi's name was also mentioned in discussions for the KPCC role, party leaders preferred Hariprasad for his ability to dedicate himself fully to party coordination and activities across Karnataka. This appointment comes as the Congress prepares for the upcoming biennial elections to fill vacancies in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
