The Karnataka government reinstated K Ramachandra Rao, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, on Wednesday, just three weeks before his retirement on May 30, 2023. Rao was initially suspended in January after a video allegedly showing him in a compromising situation with women in his office went viral. The government issued a formal order revoking his suspension, allowing him to return to his position as Director General of Police (DGP). Rao's past controversies include his stepdaughter, Kannada actor Ranya Rao, being arrested in a gold-smuggling case in 2025, which raised questions about his conduct and oversight. The disciplinary action against him began on March 18 under the All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) rules, but he has now been reinstated with immediate effect.
