In a significant operation, police in Palwal, Haryana, captured a 37-year-old interstate cattle smuggler who had been on the run for over two years. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was intercepted on the Uttawar bypass road early Friday after police received a tip-off regarding his activities. Upon noticing the police, he allegedly opened fire and attempted to flee with his associates into nearby fields. During the ensuing chase, he was injured in both legs when police returned fire. He was subsequently taken to a civil hospital for treatment and will be arrested once he is medically cleared.

The accused has an extensive criminal record, with over a dozen cases registered against him for cattle smuggling, illegal slaughtering, and assaulting police officers. A bounty of ₹5,000 (approximately $60 USD) was placed on him by police in Delhi and Haryana. Authorities are also investigating his assets linked to illegal activities, aiming to confiscate or demolish them. A pistol and ammunition were recovered from his possession, highlighting the dangerous nature of his operations.
