Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a new increase in compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in Delhi, pushing them to ₹80.09 per kg for the first time. This increase, effective from 6:00 am on Sunday, follows a ₹2 per kg hike just two days earlier, raising concerns among daily commuters, cab drivers, and auto-rickshaw operators who rely on CNG as a cost-effective fuel option. The recent adjustments come in the wake of a broader rise in fuel prices, with petrol and diesel in Delhi now priced at ₹97.77 and ₹90.67 per litre, respectively. This surge in fuel costs is attributed to escalating global energy market pressures, particularly due to tensions in the Middle East and supply concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite these increases, India has managed to keep fuel price hikes relatively moderate compared to global trends, where many countries have seen increases of up to 100%. Meanwhile, domestic piped natural gas (PNG) prices have remained stable since April 2026.
