The Indian Army's 418 Independent Field Company (part of the 9 Mountain Brigade) has successfully arrived at the Shri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara complex in the Garhwal Himalayas, marking the start of this year's pilgrimage season. For the first time, the team will remain on-site rather than returning daily to Ghangaria, allowing them to better fulfill their duties. In addition to opening the gates, the Army will also work on widening the trekking route to the Atalkoti Glacier point, enhancing safety for the thousands of pilgrims who undertake this challenging journey. This annual service has been a tradition for decades, with the Army recognized for its dedication and discipline in harsh Himalayan conditions. The Shri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara Management Trust has expressed gratitude for the joint efforts of the Army and sevadars. The sacred portals are set to open on May 23, 2026, with the first group of pilgrims departing from Rishikesh on May 20, 2026.
