West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that approximately 4,800 illegal immigrants have been deported to Bangladesh from holding centers established in the state's border districts. Currently, 836 individuals are awaiting deportation. Adhikari emphasized that illegal immigration poses a significant challenge, prompting the government to prioritize border security. He noted that 100 km of land has been handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, which stretches 2,217 km in total. The 'Chicken's Neck' corridor, crucial for connecting northeastern states to the rest of India, is a focal point for these efforts. Adhikari criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government for not implementing deportation laws and claimed that illegal immigrants were kept in jails at taxpayer expense. Additionally, he highlighted the launch of the Annapurna Yojana, which aims to provide financial support to women, marking a significant achievement for the current administration.
