The NHL recently announced that Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, goaltenders for the Colorado Avalanche, have won the prestigious William M. Jennings Trophy. This award is given to the goalie or goalies who have played at least 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it during the regular season. The Avalanche's stellar performance saw them allow only 197 goals over 82 games, surpassing the Dallas Stars, who came in second with 222 goals allowed. Blackwood, who had a stint with the San Jose Sharks, was acquired in the summer of 2023 for a sixth-round draft pick. During his time with the Sharks, he made notable contributions, including two games where he made 51 saves. In 63 games with the Sharks, Blackwood recorded a save percentage of .902 and a goals against average of 3.31. This season with the Avalanche, he played 39 games, achieving a goals against average of 2.51 and a save percentage of .904.
