The Indian agriculture ministry has projected that wheat production for the 2025-26 crop year will remain stable despite challenges posed by unseasonal weather, estimating output between 110 million and 120 million tonnes. The Roller Flour Millers' Federation of India (RFFI) estimates production at 110.65 million tonnes, which is slightly above the 109.63 million tonnes produced in 2024-25. The ministry noted that while localized damage occurred due to rainfall and hailstorms, factors such as increased acreage, early sowing, and the adoption of high-yielding seed varieties are expected to mitigate these impacts. Wheat was sown on approximately 33.4 million hectares this season, with no significant pest or disease issues reported. In Haryana, wheat arrivals have exceeded the procurement target of 75 lakh tonnes, with 56.13 lakh tonnes already purchased, indicating robust production. Madhya Pradesh has also raised its procurement target to 100 lakh tonnes due to higher-than-expected yields. Overall, the ministry remains optimistic about maintaining stable wheat production levels compared to the previous year.
