On Tuesday night, a powerful explosion at a sugarcane juice shop in Abohar town, located in Fazilka district, Punjab, injured five people and caused significant property damage. The blast occurred around 10 PM when a spark ignited a mechanical failure in the shop's generator, owned by Deepak Chugh. The explosion shattered the shop and affected four nearby commercial units and a residential house. Among the injured were shop owner Deepak Chugh, his sister Pooja, their mother Neelam, a local dhaba operator, and a woman customer. All were taken to the Government Hospital, where Pooja was later referred for advanced treatment. The intensity of the blast caused panic in the area, leading to a prompt response from the fire brigade. Officials reported that a larger tragedy was narrowly avoided when emergency responders removed several LPG cylinders stored near the generator. Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh visited the site and confirmed that the cause of the explosion was a generator piston failure, ruling out any involvement of explosives or firecrackers.
