Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that its cloud customers will face delays of several months in restoring normal operations due to damage from Iranian drone strikes on data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The strikes, which occurred two months ago, have left the cloud regions ME-CENTRAL-1 and ME-SOUTH-1 unable to support customer applications. The AWS dashboard indicated that recovery efforts could take up to six months, with billing operations currently suspended to alleviate customer costs. This suspension follows an initial waiver of usage-related charges for March 2026, amounting to an estimated $150 million. AWS has recommended that customers migrate their resources to alternative cloud regions and utilize remote backups to recover any inaccessible data. Some customers, like the Dubai-based super app Careem, managed to quickly resume services by migrating to other data center servers overnight.
