The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced it will investigate a complaint from opposition parties regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on April 18. The opposition claims that the address violated the Model Code of Conduct, which is in effect from March 15 until May 4, the date votes will be counted for five state assemblies. Leaders from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India, including M A Baby and P Sandosh Kumar, have accused Modi of misusing a public broadcaster to influence voters. They argue that such actions create an uneven playing field, undermining the principles of free and fair elections that are essential to India's democratic framework. In addition to political leaders, nearly 700 activists and citizens have also approached the ECI with similar concerns.
