After a hiatus of nearly seven months, air connectivity between Delhi and Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, India, is set to resume on May 10, 2023. Flights operated by Alliance Air Aviation Limited will operate six days a week, while services to Dharamshala will commence on May 11. This decision follows a recent ruling from the Himachal Pradesh High Court, which expressed concern over Shimla's exclusion from the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN), highlighting the need for better air services. The court noted that despite an expenditure of ₹116.70 crore (approximately $14 million USD) under the scheme, the Shimla airport remained underutilized. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the importance of these flights for enhancing tourism and economic growth in the state. The resumption of these flights is expected to provide residents and tourists with faster and more convenient travel options, significantly benefiting the local economy.
