The Indian government has officially notified a special economic zone (SEZ) for Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt Ltd in Dholera, Gujarat, focusing on electronic hardware and software, including IT and IT-enabled services. The company plans to invest ₹91,000 crore (approximately $11 billion USD) to establish India's first chip fabrication unit, which is expected to cover an area of 66.16 hectares. This initiative is anticipated to create 21,000 jobs in the region. Ajay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary in the Commerce Ministry, highlighted that the government has previously reduced the minimum contiguous land requirement for semiconductor and electronics components from 50 hectares to 10 hectares to encourage investment in this sector. Alongside Tata's SEZ, four other SEZs have been notified for semiconductor-related projects, including CG Semi and Micron Semiconductor Technology India, with total proposed investments ranging from ₹100 crore to ₹13,000 crore.
