In a significant development for Mumbai's pod taxi initiative, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has granted in-principle approval to transfer a 4,000-square metre portion of a prime plot in Bandra to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). This plot will serve as the terminating station for the pod taxi project, which has faced delays due to uncertainties over land availability. The decision was made during a joint meeting involving the RLDA, MMRDA, and Oberoi Realty, the latter having acquired the larger 45,371-square metre plot for ₹5,400 crore in February. The MMRDA is working on finalizing the design and alignment of the station, with a meeting scheduled next week. Additionally, the MMRDA is considering extending the pod taxi route to enhance connectivity to corporate offices in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). This project aims to not only improve local transportation but also generate significant non-fare revenue for the railway authorities.
