The Bernards Township Board of Education has approved Cheryl Howarth as the new principal of Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, effective September 1, 2026. Howarth, who has served as an assistant principal since 2016, will earn a salary of $202,767, prorated to reflect her start date. Board President Jennifer White praised Howarth's familiarity with the school community, emphasizing her extensive experience in teacher evaluation, data analysis, and student support programs. Howarth is also involved in various initiatives, including Restoring Focus and the Talk Kind initiative, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education.

Prior to her administrative role, Howarth worked as a middle school physical education and health teacher from 2005 to 2016. In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity and her commitment to maintaining Ridge's rich traditions while striving for continued improvement. Howarth will replace Russell Lazovick, who will take on a new position with a salary of $232,086. Superintendent Nick Markarian mentioned that Howarth's appointment will leave a vacancy for an assistant principal, and the district is working on a plan to manage responsibilities without filling this position.
