Rashid Khan, the renowned Afghan leg-spinner, revealed in his book, *Rashid Khan: From Streets to Stardom*, that he declined informal offers of citizenship from both India and Australia during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. A senior figure from the Indian cricket establishment approached him, suggesting he could live and play cricket in India due to the challenging situation in Afghanistan. However, Khan, who has previously faced similar offers, firmly stated, 'If I don’t play for my country, I won’t play for any other country either.' This commitment echoes his sentiments from 2018, when his match-winning performance led to calls for Indian citizenship, prompting responses from then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, both of whom supported Khan's dedication to Afghanistan.
