The Department of Posts in India has made significant strides in its expansion efforts, adding more than 11,000 post offices over the past four years. This initiative aims to cover about 90% of the rural geography, positioning India Post as a vital last-mile logistics partner. At the recent annual business review meeting for FY26, Union Minister for Communications and Development of Northeastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, announced that India Post achieved a revenue of ₹15,296 crore (approximately $1.84 billion USD) in FY26, reflecting a 16% year-on-year growth. This marks the first time in several years that the department has surpassed the 15% growth threshold, indicating a shift from being a traditional cost center to a revenue-driven entity. Despite this growth, India Post achieved 88% of its business target for the fiscal year, which was set at ₹17,546 crore (roughly $2.11 billion USD). Scindia emphasized the need for a sharper focus on core segments such as parcels, mail, and international business to fully harness their growth potential. The department is also expanding its partnerships with leading e-commerce and logistics companies, enhancing its Government-to-Citizen (G2C) and Government-to-Government (G2G) services.
