Members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) have approached District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar, urging action against a local individual who has illegally occupied land allocated to differently abled individuals in Melakuyilkudi, Madurai West Taluk. This land was granted under state government schemes in 2024 to 23 beneficiaries, some of whom have started building homes with government assistance. However, the individual, notorious for seizing both government and private lands for resale, has threatened the beneficiaries and obstructed their construction efforts. TARATDAC district secretary A. Balamurugan reported that the individual has previously damaged property at the construction sites and has now erected fencing to prevent further building. Despite complaints to the police, who are reportedly acquainted with the individual, no action has been taken, as they claim the investigation is ongoing. The petitioners are demanding that the individual be prosecuted under the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, for infringing upon the rights and freedoms of the differently abled individuals.
