Noida and Ghaziabad, located in Uttar Pradesh, India, are grappling with significant fire safety challenges due to a growing number of high-rise buildings. The regions have over 4,000 high-rises, yet the fire department is equipped with only nine fire stations and 28 fire engines, which is insufficient to meet the demand. According to SK Dheri, a retired chief fire officer, the international standard requires a fire station every 5 kilometers, and response times need to be within three minutes. Recent incidents, such as a fire at Gaur Green Avenue that affected eight apartments, highlight the inadequacies in emergency response capabilities. Authorities have approved the establishment of three new fire stations, but current resources still fall short of the required 54 fire engines and 300 firefighters. To address these issues, the Noida and Greater Noida authorities have sanctioned ₹308 crore for improving fire-fighting capabilities, and procurement of advanced hydraulic platforms and firefighting foam is in progress. The urgency for better equipment, including a helicopter for taller buildings, has also been raised, reflecting the critical need for enhanced fire safety measures in these rapidly growing urban areas.
