The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has voiced strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s Annapurna Bhandar scheme in West Bengal, particularly targeting the cumbersome 11-page application form required for participation. TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee highlighted the disparity between a previously circulated mock-up form and the current lengthy version, suggesting a lack of transparency and accessibility. The scheme aims to provide women with a direct cash transfer of ₹3,000 monthly, yet the extensive requirements—including details about family members and vaccination status—have raised concerns among potential beneficiaries. TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh pointed out that the conditional nature of the application process undermines the intent of social welfare schemes. The scheme is set to launch on June 1, 2026, but many women have expressed doubts about their ability to complete the form, with some opting not to apply at all. TMC leaders have urged Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to simplify the process to ensure it is user-friendly for all eligible women.
