On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aircraft received a ceremonial escort from Gripen fighter jets as it entered Swedish airspace, marking the beginning of his two-day visit to Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city. This trip is part of Modi's five-nation tour, which began in the Netherlands and includes stops in Norway and Italy. During his visit, Modi will engage in bilateral talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, focusing on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, green transition, artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, startups, resilient supply chains, defence, space, climate action, and fostering people-to-people ties. The two leaders will also participate in the European Round Table for Industry. Notably, bilateral trade between India and Sweden reached a record $7.75 billion last year, while Swedish investments in India have totaled over $2.8 billion from 2000 to 2025. This is Modi's second official visit to Sweden, following his earlier trip to Stockholm in April 2018 during his first term as Prime Minister.
