Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has reportedly proposed a military strategy to the Security Cabinet that would involve striking 20 to 30 buildings in Dahiyeh, a suburb of Beirut known for its Hezbollah presence, for every Iranian missile launched towards Israel. This suggestion comes in the wake of recent missile launches from Iran, which were triggered by Israeli airstrikes on Dahiyeh. Smotrich's rationale is that such strikes would not only serve as a deterrent but also impact Iran's strategic calculations regarding its connections to Lebanon. He argues that destroying 1,000 to 2,000 buildings in Dahiyeh could enhance Israeli security and create a lasting deterrent effect. Smotrich emphasized that targeting Hezbollah would be a more effective use of military resources, as it allows for a quicker response to threats compared to engaging in longer-range exchanges with Iran. He noted that responding to Hezbollah targets in Beirut could be executed within minutes, contrasting with the lengthy response times required for Iranian missile threats.
