A fatal accident occurred early Tuesday morning in Channahon Township, Illinois, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Michael Ortiz Gomez, a resident of Westmont. According to Will County Coroner Laurie Summers, Gomez was pronounced dead at 7:05 a.m. at St. Joe's hospital following the wreck on the south frontage road near Interstate 55 and Arsenal Road, close to the Exxon Mobil refinery. The Illinois State Police reported that the crash involved two semi-truck trailers and a passenger vehicle, leading to three individuals being transported to local hospitals. The incident prompted a response from ISP Troop 3 at 6:27 a.m. The southbound lanes of the Frontage Road were closed for several hours, reopening at 11 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause and manner of Gomez's death, while the investigation into the crash continues.
