C Joseph Vijay, who recently became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has appointed astrologer Radhan Pandit as his Officer on Special Duty (OSD), leading to significant controversy. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has condemned this decision, asserting that it undermines the government's responsibility to promote a scientific outlook and could increase public reliance on astrology. Radhan Pandit, known for his extensive experience in Vedic astrology and numerology, has advised numerous political figures across India, including former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, for whom he predicted a significant electoral victory in 1991. His influence extends to Vijay, as he suggested the name of Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), aligning it with Vijay's birth date numerologically. Critics, however, argue that appointing an astrologer to a government position sets a concerning precedent.
