This unique amendment recognizes the significant contributions of both athletes to the University of Connecticut (UConn) basketball programs. Jordan Hawkins, now a guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, played a pivotal role in helping UConn secure its fifth national championship, averaging 16.2 points per game during his sophomore season. Sue Bird, a legendary figure in women's basketball, also made her mark at UConn, winning two national titles and the Naismith Women's College Player of the Year award during her unbeaten senior season. If enacted, this amendment will allow the American robin to maintain its status as the state bird for the remaining months of the year, while sharing the honor with Hawkins and Bird each March.
