A recent survey by Talker Research, commissioned by Mayflower, reveals that long-distance relationships can be financially taxing, costing nearly $7,000 in travel expenses over the course of the relationship. The survey, which included 761 Americans, found that 74% of long-distance couples consider these costs when deciding to move in together, a phenomenon dubbed the Long-Distance Tipping Point. While love remains the primary reason for cohabitation (68%), financial considerations such as lowering living costs (31%) and travel expenses (25%) also play significant roles. Long-distance couples face an average gap of three months between visits, leading to feelings of disconnection. Interestingly, 56% of these couples plan to cohabitate within a year, compared to 41% of couples living closer together. Despite the challenges, 85% of respondents express excitement about moving in with their partner, highlighting a blend of anxiety and optimism that characterizes serious relationships.
