Nearly six years after a gender-reveal stunt ignited the El Dorado fire in southern California, the companies involved have agreed to a settlement exceeding $4 million. Wholesale Fireworks Corp and its subsidiary, American Fireworks Wholesale LLC, will pay this amount to resolve civil claims from the US Forest Service. Additionally, Pink or Blue Gender Team Inc will contribute $50,000. The fire, which erupted on September 5, 2020, consumed 22,744 acres and resulted in damages estimated at over $41 million. Tragically, firefighter Charles Morton lost his life while combating the blaze. Prosecutors noted that the pyrotechnic devices used were illegal in California and lacked sufficient warnings about their fire-starting potential. The couple behind the gender reveal, Refugio Jimenez Jr and Angela Renee Jimenez, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and received jail time and probation. This incident highlights the dangers associated with extreme gender-reveal parties, which have led to numerous injuries and property damage in the past.
