A wildfire that ignited in a forested area of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, on Friday night is currently out of control but does not pose a threat to nearby properties or public safety. The fire is burning at the top of the Rock Ridge area, adjacent to the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, and has been estimated at 1.5 hectares as of Saturday morning. Fire crews from Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue, along with support from the B.C. Wildfire Service and UBC Forestry, are actively battling the blaze. The B.C. Wildfire Service has indicated that the fire is human-caused, although the exact cause is still under investigation. Fortunately, stable weather conditions overnight have aided firefighters in preventing further escalation of the fire. Approximately 25 firefighting personnel have been deployed to the scene, and residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed to limit smoke exposure. The city has also requested that the public avoid the area to ensure safety and to prevent interference with firefighting operations. Currently, the Maple Ridge wildfire is the only uncontrolled fire in British Columbia, while 24 other active wildfires in the province are classified as being held or under control.
