Punjab's political landscape is currently in upheaval as the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faces scrutiny over its majority ahead of an upcoming Assembly session. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed confidence, claiming that the party holds a majority with 94 MLAs. However, opposition leaders, including senior Congress figure Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, have questioned the timing of the Assembly session, which is set for Labour Day, suggesting it is an attempt to showcase government strength through a confidence motion. Randhawa further speculated that President's Rule might be imposed within two months due to the prevailing political climate. Adding to the turmoil, Bikram Singh Majithia from the Shiromani Akali Dal alleged that AAP has already lost its majority, citing low attendance at a key meeting in Jalandhar. The situation has been exacerbated by the defection of seven AAP MPs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), intensifying fears of internal discord within AAP. In response, AAP leadership is holding strategy meetings to reinforce unity and mitigate the risk of further defections. Despite the mounting pressure, Mann remains determined to prove his majority in the Assembly if necessary, setting the stage for a potential political showdown.
