Lamorinda winemakers are celebrating ten years since the region's designation as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) with a public tasting event at Local Vines in downtown Lafayette, California. This event, scheduled for Sunday from noon to 6 p.m., will showcase wines produced within the region, which includes Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda. Despite being one of California's smallest AVAs, with only about 120 acres and roughly 100 vineyards, Lamorinda has a rich wine history dating back to the 1880s. The area was officially recognized as an AVA in 2016, allowing local growers to gain recognition for their unique wines. Attendees can enjoy tastings of various wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Merlot, paired with food from Maine Lobster. Organizers from Local Vines expressed excitement about the milestone, inviting the community to celebrate a decade of exceptional winemaking in their neighborhood.
